Revival Animal Health is recalling its Breeder’s Edge and Shelter’s Choice feline milk replacers due to low levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline and/or pyridoxine (vitamin B6). The Iowa-based company announced the voluntary recall after an independent animal nutritionist confirmed the nutrient deficiencies in multiple product lots following third-party manufacturing inconsistencies. The recall impacts various sizes and product lines sold nationwide online and in retail pet stores, including stand-up resealable bags and 12-ounce jars.
The company listed specific products and expiration dates. The Shelter’s Choice line includes a 1 lb. (UPC 817160011032) and 3.5 lb. (UPC 817160011049) formula with best-by dates ranging from October 2026 through March 2028. The 8 lb. (UPC 817160011063) variety has dates from September 2026 through March 2028. The Breeder’s Edge line includes a 12 oz. (UPC 817160010196) and 18 lb. (UPC 817160011278) Support Care Feline Milk Replacer with dates from September 2026 through March 2028. The 4.5 lb. (UPC 817160010103) formula has a best-by date of April 2027.

Revival Animal Health has discontinued its relationship with the contracted manufacturer. While no illnesses have been confirmed, the company is investigating nine complaints of potential gastrointestinal and bone development issues. The company noted that kittens, especially neonates, are a vulnerable population because their organ systems are immature and they depend entirely on milk replacer for nutrition. Deficiencies that might cause few symptoms in adult cats can be fatal or cause permanent developmental damage in kittens.
Kittens fed a deficient milk replacer face compounding, multi-system risks, including anemia, neurological dysfunction, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal disease and cardiac compromise. Because young kittens grow so quickly, clinical signs may appear within days to a few weeks, and the deficiencies can be fatal or cause permanent organ damage if not caught in time. The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
